What’s the Difference between Microblading, Microshading & Nano Brows
Which Brow Do I Book Hey there! You’re here because you want to know what’s the difference between Microblading Microshading and Nano Brows. You’re either
Also known as 3D Bows, Eyebrow Embroidery and Microstroking, Microblading is a form of permanent makeup performed with a manual handheld tool with a configuration of small needles that resemble a blade. Microblading uses a feather stroke technique to create hair-like strokes that produce the appearance of fuller eyebrows and to enhance the natural features of the face. Microblading is a soft look that is more subtle than old school brow tattoos. It will not look like penciled in or old school tattooed eyebrows.
Also known as Powder Brows or Ombre Brows, Microshading unlike Microblading resembles a more filled in makeup brow. This technique will give the illusion of a brow that is filled in with eyebrow pencil or powder. Ombre powder brows will have a lighter front that gradually gets darker toward the tail. You can get a full microshaded powder brow with even saturation or an ombre powder brow with gradual saturation. You can also get a mix of microblading and microshading which would result in a combo/hybrid brow. All techniques can look as natural or dramatic as you desire. How natural or dramatic your brow will look is all up to the client’s preference.
Microblading and Microshading does not remove eyebrow hair. We do not go that deep into the skin to stop hair growth. We are crafting a brow shape and creating hair-like strokes and for microshading, we are filling in your brow with pigment. You will still need to maintain your brow hair as it will continue to grow as it does normally. I RECOMMEND THREADING OR TWEEZING as wax may take off layers of skin, fading the color more.
On average, it will take two hours to get the procedure done but it can be as long as 3 hours and as short as 1 hour and 30 minutes. Microshading takes on average 2 hours and 30 min but can go as long as 3 hours. During your appointment, we will consult with you the entire time ensuring we are on the same page. The longest part of the procedure is spent measuring and drawing a symmetrical set of brows through a process we call brow mapping.
Although the cost of your brows is one set fee, ($700) the cost is broken up into three. Your booking fee, ($50) your first appointment ($490)and your follow-up. ($160)This simply means your follow-up is to be paid 6-8 weeks after your initial appointment- not at the same time as your first appointment.
Here’s the thing. All brows are not the same and I do not believe in cookie-cutter or stencil brows. Why? Because everyone’s face and bone structure is different and this is not a one size fit all type of thing. We will not begin any permanent makeup until you are happy and comfortable with the shape.
No! But they are recommended. There’s no way possible to guarantee that you will heal exactly the same as the next person. Some people retain tons of color and some people have lots of fading. Some people fade in certain areas and want to go darker or thicker. In order to ensure that the brows heal as perfect as possible, and last as long as possible, a minimum of two treatments are recommended. It takes about 6-8 weeks for the skin to complete a regeneration cycle. The follow-up is not included as it’s not always needed. But it is stated in total brow cost of $700. Without that session, you’re only paying $540. (This includes the booking fee.)It should not be paid at first appointment. The touch-up is to be paid after the second service. Follow-ups gives me the ability to add color to any areas that may have faded too much and it allows the client to make suggestions if they want adjustments to shape and/or color.
The Billion Dollar Question!! According to the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP), any change to the skin is considered permanent so microblading and microshading is a form of permanent makeup although many people say it’s semi-permanent. However, although the change to the skin is permanent, microblading is designed to last between 1- 3 years because the ink will fade over time. Microshading lasts 2-4 years as it’s more defined than microblading. Some people more and some less. Everyone is SO different. We all have different skin types and different daily routines and lifestyles. Your skin and face will change with age. Even traditional body tattoos fade, but microblading and microshading are on the face and exposed to the elements and the environment far more than body Tattoos. That’s why touch-ups are recommended every 1-2 years to maintain shape, color and detail. How often depends on a number of factors, including:
Truthfully, the answer is maybe, maybe not! I do all that I can to ensure your comfort. Some clients report absolutely no discomfort and some report mild discomfort. However, before the microblading procedure begins, an anesthetic is applied to the area to minimize discomfort. For microshading the anesthetic is applied after the brow outline and first pass is complete. But, as far as comfort, it all depends on how well you respond to the anesthetic. The anesthetic does get reapplied frequently throughout the procedure. It’s all worth it for great brows!
(Please note, if you are a frequent smoker, drink heavily or drink coffee 24 hours prior to the procedure or are near or on your menstrual cycle, your discomfort level may be stronger.)
You must avoid working out for 10 days following your microblading appointment. The salt in the sweat will fade the pigment and expand the stokes while you are healing, giving poor results.
As a precaution to avoid any complications, I do not perform cosmetic tattooing on pregnant women or breastfeeding women.
Of course! Guys deserve great brows too! I am confused as to why I wouldn’t.
To ensure the highest quality of safety and sanitation, all our tools are ONE TIME USE ONLY. All blades, wipes, hand tools are disposed of as biohazard waste after each appointment.
You may fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so I can take into consideration the shape you desire.
No! Directly after your procedure, you are free to resume your day with fabulous brows! Just keep up with your aftercare instructions. Be advised they will look darker!
No, please don’t! Keeping your natural hair intact will only give microblading an even more realistic illusion. Just please be aware if you are requesting a MUCH higher arch or tail, the natural hair will grow back in and you will need to maintain that area. If you are extremely low maintenance, you may want to keep it close to your natural shape.
Don’t you worry at all! Microblading and or Microshading is still for you. If anything, it was crafted with you in mind. We will tailor a shape to enhance your appearance.
Immediately after your procedure, your brows will look bold and crisp. Between days 2 and 4, your brows will appear darker in color and more sharply defined. This will last between 2 and 4 days, so don’t panic, this is normal! Your brows will begin to scab around day 3 and last up to 10-14 days. Do not pick at scabs and don’t panic if pigment has vanished! This is normal and a part of the healing process.
Swelling and redness are minimal with most clients and will disappear within 1 -2 days. The treated area may or may not feel like sunburn afterward but your discomfort should be minimal. The complete healing process takes 6- 8 weeks at which time the true color of the tattoo is evident. During this process, your tattoo will soften and lighten. Please be patient if you think too much color has been lost, as your skin is still regenerating and natural exfoliating has begun. Wait at least 8 weeks to see the true color. But keep in mind, microbladed brows heal 30 to 50 percent softer than the initial color.
**Please note** Final results cannot be guaranteed as each unique skin type holds pigment differently and breaks down at different rates. Tattooed hair strokes tend to have a more crisp look on dry skin types than oily skin types which may produce more blurry strokes. We will re-evaluate how your skin has received the pigment at your touch-up appointment and make any changes if necessary.
Try to avoid touching your brows with your bare hands the first 24 hours following your procedure unless you’re following the aftercare routine. When you do touch your brows please wash your hands thoroughly. You may experience some lymph drainage following the procedure. You will receive sterile water wipes in your after care kit to dab your brows after the procedure..
Microblading is a dry heal. This means do not apply any ointment. I will give you an aftercare kit that has instructions on how to care for your brows along with all the tools to succeed with great aftercare. Although microblading is a dry heal, washing them however, with agent cleanser like cetaphil is very important. This is discussed more thoroughly at your appointment.
Microshading is not a dry heal and requires washing gently with cetaphil as well as applying a cream/ointment twice a day to the brows. All this is provided in your aftercare kit given to you at your appointment.
Please avoid harsh cleansers during your healing process and after. They are detrimental to the bonding process that must take place for the pigment to stabilize in the dermis.
Expect scabbing. Please DO NOT PICK or scratch them off. Let them fall off naturally. Once the flakes have fallen off, a new layer of healing skin will completely cover the strokes. It will appear as the eyebrows are gone. As your skin regenerates, the hair strokes will slowly reappear at a softer shade.
Avoid exercise for 10 days after your procedure. Avoid direct sunlight for 10 days. If you are outside please wear a hat or sunglasses to block the treated area from the sun.
Do NOT apply make-up to the treated area for the first 2 weeks. Chemicals interfere with the healing and color of your microbladed brows.
No swimming pools, jacuzzis or other bodies of water for 2 weeks
Do not soak your face underwater, in the shower, bathtub, or allow water to be sprayed directly into your face for two weeks. I recommend you wash your hair prior to the procedure or get your hair shampooed professionally after, to ensure water or chemicals do not get on your brows.
Decide if you want to book a follow-up appointment. Avoid excessive exposure to the sun (ie: tanning and tanning beds) as this will cause the brows to fade and discolor at a faster rate than those that don’t. Now that your brows are completely healed, please use a sunscreen with SPF on your brows. Rinse and dry the area thoroughly with a gentle cleanser if you are in chlorine.
Please keep glycolic acid, Retin-A, face peels and exfoliation away from the treated area as continued use may lighten the pigment.
If you decide to have laser resurfacing or laser hair removal after your tattoo has healed, please inform the laser technician of your microblading, Laser procedures may darken, lighten or discolor the tattooed area.
Please choose the “Book An Appointment.” Button just above ⬆️ to set an appointment up or phone consult if you have additional or personalized questions.
